Sneak Peek Saturday: It's Not You, It's Me

It's Not You, It's Me
By: Kerry Cohen Hoffmann

Pub date: June 9th, 2009

Zoe loves Henry.

Henry dumps Zoe.

Zoe wants Henry back—at any cost.

Zoe’s two best friends come up with a plan to help Zoe get what she thinks she wants. The plan: make Henry jealous.

But the plan takes a surprising turn. . . .

Spanning thirty-one days in the cycle of a breakup, Kerry Cohen Hoffmann’s humorous and poignant novel depicts a girl whose single-minded focus on her ex-boyfriend has pulled her far from the person she most needs to win back—herself.

"As she steps up to the next branch, the one beneath breaks off with a sharp crick! Zoe freezes again, her heart pounding. No, Shannon would definitely not approve. Above her she can see the light in Henry's room. He must be in there, carrying on with his life, his life without her. She climbs higher, just a few branches now from his window.

The tree sways from her weight, she realizes she might fall.
She glances down, seeing the dark ground far below, and catches her breath. She can picture Julia in her mind, shaking her head: I don't let boys take over my life. Zoe's aware of her current position, ten feet up a tree outside Henry's house, doesn't make her look good.

But this is Henry. They had something real together. For all Julia's adamant opinions about boys, she has no grounding for them. She never had a boyfriend. Unless you count her relationship with Seth Jessup back in the sixth grade. As far as Zoe knows, Seth's the only boy that Julia's kissed. This most definitely makes her no expert on how Zoe should be feeling now that Henry's ripped out her heart and torn it to shreds.

Julia doesn't know what it's like. No one knows."

This book sounds super adorable and as I was looking through Kerry's website this week, I came across an excerpt. You can find the entire excerpt here.

Waiting for You
By: Susane Colasanti

Pub date: May 14th, 2009

At the beginning of her sophomore year, Marisa is ready for a fresh start and, more importantly, a boyfriend. So when the handsome and popular Derek asks her out, Marisa thinks her long wait for happiness is over.

But several bumps in the road—including her parents’ unexpected separation, a fight with her best friend, and a shocking disappointment in her relationship with Derek—test Marisa’s ability to maintain her new outlook. Only the anonymous DJ, whose underground podcasts have the school’s ear, seems to understand what Marisa is going through. But she has no idea who he is—or does she?

In this third romantic novel from Susane Colasanti, Marisa learns how to “be in the Now” and realizes that the love she’s been waiting for has been right in front of her all along.

Excerpt

"The best thing about summer camp is the last day. Because that's the day you get to go home and live like a normal person again.

Don't get me wrong. Camp was freaking awesome. I spent the entire summer in Maine at a special camp for the arts. My dad gave me his old Nikon camera and taught me how to develop photos last year, and ever since then photography has been my passion. There's something about vintage film that captures the now in a way digital can't. It just makes everything look softer somehow. And the whole old-school method of developing your own photos exactly how you want them is really cool.

So yeah, I learned a lot more about photography at camp and had a ton of practice. I've also been playing the violin since seventh grade, so I had violin lessons there, too. We even had a concert last night.

I've only been home for like three hours but I've already participated in the following critical post-camp activities:

* Took a shower. With water pressure. That actually got me clean
* Remembered what air-conditioning felt like. Did a happy little dance at the supermarket.
* Put on clothes that didn't smell like mildew. They also did not feel permanently damp.
* Sat on the couch and watched TV.
* Got a cold drink from the refrigerator. Ice rules.

The only thing left on my list is to get together with Sterling for the first time since June, so I'm majorly stoked. I can't wait to see her. Not because she's my best friend, but because school starts in a week and we're getting psyched for it."

If you love Susane's novels as much as I do, then you're probably really looking forward to the release of Waiting for You. Colasanti's books are always so fun and sweet. I know some of you have already read/received this book for review but for those who haven't, I thought I'd post a sneak peak. You can find the entire excerpt (consisting of three chapters) here.

Happy Saturday everyone! =D
